Whispering Spruce Organics
Whispering Spruce Organics in LaFarge, Wisconsin was established in May, 2004 by Jay Dean and Miriam Bontrager, and is farmed along with their chilcren, Rebacca, Jesse, Mary Beth, and Ruth Ann. The farm consists of 45 acres with approximately 30 acres working farmland, the rest being woods and pasture.
"We produce certified organic milk and eggs. In the past we have raised organic produce and are considering that in the future. We also raise our own food as much as we can, including the common vegetables, some fruit, sugars such as honey, sorghum, maple syrup, sugar beets. We hope to grow wheat in the future.
Our farm is located on a ridgetop, which provides some scenic views. Six tall spruce trees stand alongside the road, hence the name 'Whispering Spruce'. Because we live on an older homestead, an array of flowers and flowering bushes abound. With time, the fields (which are contoured) are becoming more productive and sustainable. Nature is a part of everyday life."
