Schrock Family Farm
The Schrock Family Farm, located in Hillsboro, Wisconsin is owned and operated by Sherman and Ruth Schrock along with their children Josiah, Hannah, Titus, Andrew, Peter, Keturah, Benjamin, Elizabeth, and Timothy. Their farm consists of 14.8 total acres - 3 tillable acres, 7.8 acres of pasture, and 4 acres of woodland.
The Schrock Family Farm specializes in kale and spinach, and they will also be growing mini onions, aruguls, radicchio, diva cucumbers, and acorn squash for our 2010 season. They also produce certified organic pasture-raised fresh turkeys for Thanksgiving.
"Besides our organic produce, this is our third year as a goat dairy where we sell the milk of approximately 40 to 60 goats. Last fall we built a large composter so we can compost all of our goat bedding pack which is then used for building our own soil to sell. Our small acreage allows us to pasture our goats and then raise produce which we sell to buy feed for the goats who then produce compost for our soil which feeds our product plants which we then sell to buy feed for the goats, and so on. And of course, we eat from everything we grow and produce! We just grow and raise much more than we can use ourselves and the excell we sell to pay for the things we do not raise ourselves. We try to make each item we produce be such that it compli, ents our whole picture into something that becomes more and more sustainable as time goes on . . . an upward spiral to more nutrient dense food and thus better health for us and our customers."
